The Centripetal and Centrifugal
The new library is located at the center of the river in Fenway Park, as an extension of special collections of Museum of Fine Arts. It starts by mapping out the geometries on the stie by anaylizing the curvature and geometric ceners within the landscape. Two ellipses and two circles are generated from the landscape. A series of tangential and intersecting relationships are studied between the four geometries. The optimum result is chosen to both form a continous circulation connecting the two riverbands and express the tension of the site.

The tangential relationship between the circles and ellipses is also registered in sections, the central intersection of the project shows the sectional relationship of the four geometries. The walls are tilting inside and ouside alternately to form two cones in reverse positions, defining two unique inner reading rooms.
The ellipses are entending far out into the landscape, facing centrifugally, while the two circles stand tight tangential to each other, directing centripetally. The geometries then divide the library into two unique sections: the outward facing, brignt and linear spaces in the ellipses fit the cafe, leisure reading area and children library, while the inward facing, circular spaces in the circles with less direct sunlight will fit the quiter programs, including research, quite reading rooms and rare book collections. The project thus satisfies the needs of both the researcher and the general visitors of the library, providing them seperate entrances and seperate routes.
